Eretria on the island of Euboea

is a small seaside town founded in 1824 by refugees from Psara.

Psara is a small Greek island located to the east of Evia. In 1824, Ottoman troops carried out a massacre of thousands of residents here. Currently, Eretria is inhabited, but by no more than 500 people.

Modern Eretria is a popular yet still very quiet seaside resort. Numerous taverns, historical sites, palm-lined alleys, and beautiful views make it a preferred spot for tourists to stay.

Eretria is not a place where the houses are styled like those in Santorini.

Eretria is authentic, and the locals are very open and friendly.

An interesting fact about the town is that the modern city is built on ancient Eretria. Here, one literally walks on historical sites.

The local archaeological museum is located near the ancient city. It houses the most important exhibits found during the excavation work in ancient Eretria.

Eretria was already inhabited in the 3rd millennium BC.

At the beginning of the 8th century BC, the city became one of the most important in all of Greece, due to trade around the entire Mediterranean Sea.

Eretria is a charming tourist town. The coastal area offers not just beaches, taverns, and palm-lined avenues.
