Evia appeals not only to history enthusiasts and urban adventurers. The plethora of hiking trails invites both experienced trekkers and beginners to explore.

The island is renowned for its many waterfalls, some easily accessible from the road and others tucked away from urban routes, necessitating a bit of a hike to reach.

The gorges with their towering and steep rocky cliffs are worth a visit, as even during peak season, it is rare to encounter fellow hikers.

The most experienced hikers will undoubtedly make a trip to the highest summit – Dirfys.

An intriguing detail about Evia is the fossilized forest found here, which dates back approximately 20 million years.

In summary, Euboea is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility away from the urban rush.

Drimona Waterfall

In the northern region of the island lies one of the favorite spots for both locals and tourists – the Drimona waterfall.

The waterfall is situated at an elevation of 620 m above sea level, just 4 km from the village of Drimona. Visitors must park in a small lot and take a safe mountain path down a short distance to view the waterfall.

The water tumbles into a small pond from a height of 15 meters. The surrounding lush greenery keeps the temperature pleasant even during the hot summer months.

A pathway with a wooden railing leads over bridges beneath which the Sepia River flows, making it worthwhile to take a stroll to see more of the larger and smaller cascades.

The area suffered significant damage during the massive fire that ravaged northern Evia in August 2021. The charred trees and swings serve as reminders of the tragedies the island has endured.

Geriakou Waterfall

In the northern part ofEvia, just beyond the charming village of Gerakiou, there is a small waterfall.

Concealed among dense trees, it is easy to overlook, so it is crucial to set your navigation.

The waterfall is small. It is worth a visit if you are in the vicinity, especially since it is only a few steps from the car.

Manikiatis Waterfall

In the central part of the island, there is a waterfall hidden at the bottom of a gorge carved by the Manikiathis river.

From the high, vertical rock walls, the water falls from a height of about 25 meters. The waterfall has created a clear and deep pool, perfect for a refreshing swim.

About 0.5 km further downstream, there is a second, smaller waterfall and another natural pool.

The gorge leads through dense vegetation. You can encounter lizards and snakes here. The river provides water all year round, except during periods of extreme drought.

Platanistos Waterfall

The waterfall is located in the southern part of the island, in its 'wild area' where there are no crowds and the vegetation is dense and natural.

The village of Platanistos is surrounded by forests, and the waterfall is surprisingly close, right next to a small stone bridge. You don't have to walk far; the waterfall is just beside the parking lot.

The waterfall cascades into a natural pool. It is most impressive in spring, but even in the middle of summer, it leaves an impact.

Kampia Waterfall

Kampia is not just a waterfall and not just one, all set amidst lush greenery, stone paths, and the sound of water.

You can cool off in the water, which is clear as it flows straight from the mountains.

An important plus is that there is a good asphalt road leading here.

Fossilized Forest

Not far from the Drimona waterfalls, south of the village of Kerasia, lies one of the few fossilized forests in Europe. Studies confirm that the forest is about 20 million years old! The huge boulders are remnants of ancient trees.

In the village of Kerasia, there is a Museum of Fossilized Mammals, whose exhibits and shared knowledge will certainly interest everyone.

Unfortunately, currently, both the ancient forest and the museum are not open to visitors.

Post-Mining Lakes

In the central part of the island, there are several reservoirs formed in the places of former quarries.

When for many years humans stopped interfering with the local environment, nature created true wonders.

Today, the lakes, often dozens of meters deep, attract tourists and locals for walks and picnics mainly to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and to feast their eyes on the beauty of nature.
